Texas – Farming is very much still a staple of the American economy. The most recent Census of Agriculture in 2017 found that nearly half of the country — 40% to be exact — was farmland. The U.S. is home to over two million farms, and Texas is home to 248,000 of them, far exceeding any other state. Missouri, with over 95,000 farms, and Iowa, with over 86,000, are the runners-up. Wondering what counts as a farm? Farms are defined as places where at least $1,000 of agricultural products were produced and sold within the census year. Of all the farmland in the country, 44% of farmland is focused on cattle and dairy production. :
